Keyword Mapping Tool: Map Search Queries to Target URLs

Keyword mapping assigns researched queries and reviewed keyword clusters to existing or planned pages. Unlike automated keyword clustering, which proposes related search groups, a mapping plan makes a concrete page decision: which URL already serves this need, which page deserves improvement, and where a new landing may be justified. Use the working table below to create a reviewed plan and export it as CSV.

What this free worksheet produces

  • An actionable keyword โ†’ cluster โ†’ search intent โ†’ target URL spreadsheet for SEO teams and content editors.
  • Editable assignments for every query plus safe CSV export for Excel and Google Sheets.
  • Review signals for a cluster mapped to multiple URLs; this is a hypothesis to investigate, not proof of cannibalization.

Plan page targeting without an account. Paste one query per line or import tabular keyword, cluster, intent and URL fields. Edit the intent and target page, review potential conflicts and export CSV. This is a manual worksheet, not automatic search intent classification or live Google data.

Local-only processing in your browser: this worksheet sends no keywords to a server. 300 max.

Keyword mapping vs keyword clustering: what changes?

Clustering asks which phrases may share a user need. Mapping asks which existing or planned page will answer it. One cluster may include many queries but should still have a clear page type, main target and supporting content plan.

Without mapping, teams may commission multiple articles for the same search job, overlook a strong existing category or optimize a how-to article for queries that mainly return working tools. A page decision should reflect the actual target-market SERP and user goal, not just repeated words.

SEO Clusterizer can help organize and review clusters separately; this manual mapping worksheet does not crawl Google, access Search Console, fetch rankings or automatically infer search intent. The editable output deliberately keeps the final choice under your control.

Five steps to create a reliable SEO keyword map

  1. 1. Gather queries and the pages you already own

Bring keywords from your research source, remove true duplicates and keep language and country context. Export the relevant existing URLs as well. If the site already receives organic clicks, inspect queries and landing pages in Search Console before treating a keyword group as an opportunity for a new page.

  2. 2. Validate the user task and dominant page type

Group close variants but differentiate explanations, product comparisons and immediate tool usage when the search results demand distinct formats. For commercially important terms, review Google results in the same country, language, device class and comparable time window.

  3. 3. Assign the primary destination URL

Prefer the current page that best serves the search task. Plan a new page only when there is a demonstrably different intent or missing capability. Record the intended URL, main cluster, page type and target search job; avoid separate near-duplicate articles for synonyms.

  4. 4. Investigate conflicting page mappings

If a cluster points to multiple URLs, verify whether people genuinely need distinct formats. Conversely, one page receiving unrelated intents may deserve a split. Neither pattern automatically proves a ranking problem without checking actual content and query-level performance.

  5. 5. Export, implement and compare performance

Export the reviewed CSV, assign page ownership and align the sitemap and internal linking with the approved structure. Measure query/page clicks and impressions after changes using comparable country, device and time periods; account for seasonality and delayed indexing.

Three tasks that should not be confused

Each method produces a different deliverable. Use the one that fits the job.

Keyword clusteringCandidate groups of queries that might share an intent.
Keyword mappingAn approved assignment of those groups to a specific URL and content format.
SERP overlapSupporting evidence from shared ranking URLs; does not guarantee a correct mapping.

Keyword mapping FAQs

Is keyword mapping the same as clustering?

No. Clustering proposes groups of related queries. Keyword mapping assigns those reviewed groups to existing or planned pages.

How can I spot keyword cannibalization?

Look for a query group assigned to several URLs, then review actual Google Search Console page/query data and page formats. Similar topics alone do not prove cannibalization.

Does the template work in Excel and Google Sheets?

Yes. Export the CSV and open it in your spreadsheet editor. Exported cells are escaped to reduce the risk of spreadsheet formula execution.

Are my keywords uploaded to a server?

Not by this mapping worksheet: typing, editing and CSV generation happen locally in your browser. Other SEO Clusterizer features, including server-based tools, have separate processing and terms.

Next step after mapping

Validate important search intents against real results, prepare a content brief for missing pages, and use clustering where it materially saves research time rather than creating redundant URLs.
